FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

“Active Shooter” - How to Respond

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Selects “Shots Fired, When Lightning Strikes”
as Key Reference Document for Government Publication

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security released new guidance on surviving an active shooter, entitled “Active Shooter:  How to Respond.”  The Center for Personal Protection and Safety’s “Shots Fired, When Lightning Strikes” instructional training DVD was one of the primary references used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for this government publication. The purpose of the government publication is to provide guidance to individuals, including managers and employees, who may be caught in an active shooter situation, and discuss how to react when law enforcement responds.

“Shots Fired, When Lightning Strikes” addresses key topics for today’s threat:

     * Recognizing pre-incident indicators (“red flags”) in the workplace

     * The survival mindset, a belief that you can take control and survive

     * Courses of action during an active shooter incident

     * Actions to take when law enforcement or SWAT teams respond
